In October 2003 the Joint Information System Committee (JISC) announced the award of a £2.28 million government grant to encode and deliver online some 3,000 hours of newsfilm content from the ITN Archive collection during 2004-2006.
Newsfilm Online is part of a programme of digitisation projects supported with funds released under the Comprehensive Spending Review programme (CSR2), a strategic investment to encourage major digitisation projects for key national assets in the UK. This programme is funded through the Joint Information Systems Committee (JISC)
From 1 August 2008 Newsfilm Online will offer access to film and television news content to users throughout UK higher and further education. The newsfilm will be delivered in downloadable form. For subscription information please visit JISC Collections.
